New Year, A Million Business Ideas? Here's Where To Focus
Taking a break over the holidays can bring a fresh hit of inspiration, ideas and motivation.
And it can ALSO feel a little overwhelming when you have TOO MANY ideas.
One minute you’re feeling lit up by your ideas, and the next, you feel stuck about what to actually do next AND if it’s even a good idea to take action on.
Because here’s the thing – having ideas is great, but knowing where to channel your energy is even more important.
So, how do you decide where to focus your efforts?
Let’s break it down step by step.
Step 1: Get clear on your business goals
Before diving into all your exciting ideas, take a step back and ask yourself: What’s my main business goal right now?
If your goal is to sell out your upcoming group program, now might not be the time to create a brand-new offer from scratch. Instead, focus on what WILL directly support your current objective.
Aligning your actions with your business goals is key to moving forward effectively.
Your action step:
Write down your top three business goals for the next quarter and use them as a filter for your ideas.
Step 2: Stick to your plan
Even if you didn’t finalise a plan before the holidays, you likely had a rough outline of what you wanted to accomplish. Shiny new ideas can be tempting, but staying committed to your initial plan helps maintain consistency and momentum.
Your original plan is strategic and aligns with your goals – so don’t let distractions pull you away from it.
Your action step:
Revisit your current plan and double down on execution rather than constantly chasing new ideas.
Step 3: Check your mindset
Big goals can feel stretchy, and sometimes our brains trick us into thinking we need to pivot or try something new to avoid the discomfort of pushing toward those goals.
So be honest with yourself – are new ideas a form of procrastination?
Mindset Check:
Are these new ideas supporting your growth, or are they distractions from what really matters?
Step 4: Trust Your Intuition
While strategic planning is crucial, your intuition also plays a significant role.
If an idea keeps coming up and you can’t stop thinking about it, it might be worth exploring. Trust yourself and find the balance between logic and intuition.
If you're feeling stuck, consider asking for signs from the universe or using intuitive tools like a pendulum to guide your decisions.
Your action step:
Tune into your gut feelings and intuitive knowings – if an idea excites you on a deep level, it might be worth pursuing.
Step 5: Make a decision and take action
The biggest key to overcoming idea overwhelm is simply making a decision.
Indecision slows you down, while action propels you forward. Remember, saying “not right now” doesn’t mean “not ever”.
Your action step:
My recommendation here is to keep a dedicated journal or a digital note for all your ideas. Write them down so you can revisit them later when the time is right.
